It is imperative that the backup drive that you are using is properly partitioned and formatted prior to installing the BounceBack software.
First, you must format your drive as Mac OS Journaled. This WILL get rid of anything on your hard drive, so make sure you make a copy of any data on this drive that might not be on your computer. This is a prerequisite to running incremental backups properly. You can format your external drive by doing the following:
1. Go into Macintosh HD
2. then click on Applications
3. then go into the Utilities folder
4. then double click Disk Utility
Inside of the disk utility, you will see a set of icons (disk drives as well as CD/DVD drives on the left hand side.) Select the top-most yellow-colored drive (do not choose Macintosh HD). Once you select that drive, you will be able to click on the Partition tab.
Under the Partition tab, click on Current (under Volume Scheme) and set it to 1 Partition. Then, click on the Options button just below this dialogue. Inside of Options, click on APM (Apple Partition Map, if you have a Power PC / Powerbook G4 / PowerMac G5, etc.) or click on Intel GUID if you are on a newer Intel Mac (Mac Mini, Macbook, Macbook Pro, etc.) Then make sure under the Volume information, the Format is set as Mac OS Extended F(Journaled). Click OK. Once you are finished with these, click Apply (or Partition on 10.4.x and below) and it should format your external drive.
You will then install the BounceBack software and perform a backup to this drive.
