Case Study

Contact: Lori Collins
Company: Focus USA
Product: PCMCIA ABSplus
Background
Focus USA is a marketing organization dedicated to delivering the
best, most complete database mailing and modeling products available.
Its expertise is anticipating and meeting the challenges facing
direct marketers. The company works closely with its clients to
understand their needs and goals and, as a result, has built strong
and lasting client relationships.
As a global client service organization, Focus USA’s sales
and marketing professionals are on the road constantly to meet with
clients in order to develop and implement direct marketing campaigns.
With such an extensive travel schedule, Focus USA sales executives
are dependant on their notebooks to conduct their day-to-day activities.
This valuable resource for the sales executives must be maintained
so that it contains accurate client records as well as the company
proprietary databases.
Problem
For one of Focus USA’s sales executives, Lori Collins, the
increased security screening measures have exposed her notebook
to a new set of threats, such as theft and accidental dropping.
These potential threats to her notebook forced Collins to explore
an option that could prevent or add a level of comfort for the data
maintained on her notebook during her travels.
“Every time I pass through an airport security checkpoint
and leave my notebook unattended, I cross my fingers my notebook
will be on other side when I get there,” said Collins.
With Collins’ hectic schedule, she needed a solution requiring
little user intervention, ease of use and a high level of reliability
and security.
Solution
After an extensive search process, Collins discovered the right
solution for her—the CMS Products ABSplus. This automatic
backup system addressed and answered all of the needs Collins required
of a solution. In the ABSplus she found an easy-to-use, pocket-sized,
plug-and-play device controlled by a powerful patent pending backup
software. The full-featured software of the ABSplus performs a complete
backup of the host notebook’s entire hard drive automatically
and in the background once the ABSplus is connected. Collins found
this feature extremely useful because it didn’t affect her
daily productivity level. The software also eliminated the hassle
associated with manual backup, which she found with other manufacturers’
products.
“The greatest advantage to the ABSplus is I don’t have
to worry about whether or not my data is accurate and up to date
because the system does it all automatically for me,” said
Collins.
Although the ABSplus automatically performs a backup of the data
on Collins’ notebook, she still manually backs up her hard
drive prior to every business trip just as another safe guard to
ensure the data is current.
In addition to her concern about having the most accurate data
to present to clients during her meetings, Collins also fears losing
her notebook or having the hard drive crash while on the road. Another
reason she selected the ABSplus was for its disaster recovery options.
She likes the fact that the ABSplus utilizes a standard notebook
hard drive and that it can be easily removed from the protective
casing and installed into her notebook in a manner of minutes if
the hard drive crashes.
Another feature she liked about the ABSplus was it could also be
connected to a compatible notebook and used as an external hard
drive if her notebook was ever stolen. This flexibility eases Collins
concerns and adds a level of data insurance against notebook theft.
“The ABSplus has been a lifesaver,” said Lori Collins.
“I don’t worry about retrieving my data if I lose or
damage my notebook while I am on the road. In fact, the ABSplus
has been such lifesaver that I have recommended it to two of my
colleagues who now feel the same way I do about the product.”
Although Collins has never needed to call on the ABSplus in a pinch,
she is at ease knowing the product is standing ready to help if
need be.
